Father Stu—a Story of Entire Sanctification

Updated: Apr 15, 2022

“Father Stu” …An awesome movie! I think it is my favorite of faith-based movies, several of which have been good.

Didn’t really know what to expect. Would they cheat the best in Catholic faith based upon centuries of practices rooted in following Jesus in favor of a “born-again” moment? .. or perhaps get so lost inside Catholic institutional bias and miss the beauty and power of God breaking in upon one individual life? ..or even worse, would they opt for a faith-lite like “Highway to Heaven” or syrupy like “Touched by an Angel” where stringed instruments crescendo as everything works out, perfectly, all within 42 minutes.

I knew, given the (R) rating the language would be daunting. It was, though appropriate to the well developed characters and more importantly the subtle, yet powerful back stories interweaving through out.

Rarely have I been so deeply moved as I was in a story well told, revealing the very best in Catholic rhythms of faith and in the holy-making of a clearly dis-interested, rogue and charming character. God, faith and the very real cost of loving God first as no other is authentically presented.

Leave your young kids at home and make it a night out! You’ll want to leave some space for coffee and unpacking your thoughts.

Blessings! Terry
